This tag is to be used with questions dealing with the writing or reading of Hangul (한글), the official writing system of Korea.
Hangul was first proposed in 1443 by King Sejong during the Choseon Dynasty. Although it took nearly 500 years to gain extensive use throughout Korea, Hangul is now considered the official writing system of both North and South Korea. North Korea commonly refers to Hangul as 조선글 (Choseon-geul), meaning "The writing of the Choseon (people)."
Hangul may be written either vertically or horizontally. The traditional direction is vertically from top to bottom, right to left. Modernly however, Hangul is almost always written and read horizontally from left to right.
